My New Year New Army project for 2025 is Imperial Knights.
I've dabbled with the army several times before and always sold up because, after you paint three or four of them, you're going to find yourself done with the faction pretty fast.
To try and prolong this experience - this time - I've gone ahead and imagined up a whole book of lore for my toys.
The painting process for this is quite involved, and I'm sure there are steps which are completely superfluous, but a guide for how to paint yourself a whole army of these guys is coming soon.
Introducing House Bercorium.
Aberdonia was once a lush, oceanic world teeming with life.
A crown in the jewel of the Imperium known for its endless expanses of turquoise oceans and vibrant marine ecosystems. But in the grim darkness of the 42nd millennium, there is still only war.
Since the planet pledged itself to the Imperium, cataclysmic environmental changes have transformed its surface into a desolate wasteland where the memory of its waters are but a whisper carried on scorching winds.
Where large estates with lush paradise gardens once stood, mile-high hab-blocs now blight the horizon as the population piles into the world's few remaining cities to fight for work in mineral mines that spew toxic clouds into the atmosphere.
This has been the cost of rapid expansion, industrialisation at the hand of the Mechanicum, and the tithes of constant war all planets must pay to fight back both he heretic and foul xenos alike.
Established long before the planet's transformation, House Bercorium are the guardians of Aberdonia.
In bright teal armour, its massive titans pay tribute to the world's history of vibrant seas.
To that end, a reverence to the water is upheld by the House - from the sea beasts stamped upon their titans and weapons, to traditions played out on the eve of war.
Before each battle the Sacrum Aquae is performed, a ceremonial immersion of the Knights’ weapons in consecrated water drawn from the deepest, hidden wells of Aberdonia. This ritual both honours the ancient seas and is believed to imbue the weapons with the planet's lost power.
Among the relics of House Bercorium is the trident Wavebreaker, said to have been used by the planet's original settlers to hunt the many large creatures that once made the planet their home and which, ultimately, became the symbol for the populace to rally around.
Knights who have proven themselves in battle are permitted by ancient right to bear the mark of the trident upon their machines.
